In printmaking class, a transparent modifier for ink is often shortened to “trans base” or just “trans.” As a trans guy it always made me laugh a bit. Transparency is about the invisibility of trans men, being seen, and the growth it took to make myself known. I used subtly transparent inks and paper to present these ideas, tucking some silhouettes behind layers and others proudly in front. Throughout college my trans art has moved from exploration to embracement and pride. Monstera Leaves is a separate work, using a preserved leaf as a stencil to explore vibrant color and scale
