In the heartstain series, I express the desire to be seen, known, and to be loved. In these images, my recollection of familiar facial features are stitched together to bring forth images of people, each confronting the viewer, hesitantly, both in fear of what the viewer may see yet with hope of being understood. The beauty in each face is juxtaposed with a grotesque state of suffering, melancholy, or longing, manifested through visceral organic forms of warped skin, foliage, and growth. They pose an impossible question to the viewer: will you love me wholly?
