I begin a painting by constructing images from daily life and then deconstructing them: creating a push and pull between figure and abstraction. Painting with acrylic presents an immediacy. I must act in the moment. I am interested in erasure — continuously covering up previous layers. However, nothing can be fully erased as I embrace the texture, brushstrokes, and undertones of the painting’s past

The garbage system reached beyond taking out the trash: it involves consumerism. I am interested in the subject’s density and exploring how paint can create a layered effect on a 2-D surface. This piece includes images like a shopping cart: a symbol of class and a critique of over-consumption. The brightly colored layers comment on the over-saturation of advertising.
