rAir is a sneaker powered by pneumatic muscles. Conventional laces capture the foot by pulling or drawing it down into the shoe rather than uniformly wrapping and enclosing the foot in all dimensions. By applying technology used in robotics, the air muscles contain the foot and take up the space, rather than collapsing the shoe around the foot. rAir can be inflated via a pump in the heel and takes just a second to inflate and lock in the foot. The muscles can be deflated by pressing the release valve near the toe box.
